2)Black people &supporters of the cause from other races....DON"T SHOOT, KILL, OR OTHERWISE VIOLENTLY PROVOKE POLICE!!! It serves absolutely nothing other than a regression to the most base form of protest: the riot. And you can not win a riot war against an armed and armoured police force who can call an even more heavily armed and armoured national guard as soon as they decide that type of show of force is "validated".
3)If there's one "common theme" that should be explored in all of this, it should be the role of the military. I don't know the statistics, but I'd say it's a fair bet that many in law enforcement are either vets or have some military training. The Dallas shooter was ex-military. I think something that should be looked at is post-military reintroduction to non-military society. The military teaches people to kill, not to be community diplomats. You can't expect people who have been indoctrinated one way to immediately be able to cope with acting another way in tense situations. Indoctrination and its effects can be compounded by things such as combat PTSD.. The military should be funding a programme that gives counseling as well as "de-programming" (eg;, non-violent conflict resolution in tense situations especially if going into a job where the vet is going to be armed) services to vets and other ex-military BEFORE they "re-enter society". I've never been to war (though I have been shot at a few times and survived an attempted murder and years of sexual and physical abuse, so I have a smidge of practical empathy), but I can imagine that the warm feeling of coming home to friends and family or whatever lasts about a week, and then the PTSD and the military "programming" kick (back) in, and you're just kind of left...there.
I don't really know what else to say. I really hope these officers in Minnesota and Baton Rouge don't get off. There's just too much evidence. All you can do is hope that the law will be just, and that if it's not just....I just hope people don't play into the hands of manipulators looking for a race war. All lives matter, but right now we need to focus on the "black lives matter" part of that. Because there are people out there who think that only SOME lives matter, and to those people it's usually the black lives that are excluded from the ones they think matter. And those people are willing to use deadly force to further that exclusion.
One thing I would like to add: I took note of how the Toronto Pride parade handled the interruption of their parade by Black Lives Matter protestors. They heard the BLM protestors out, resolved the conflict peacefully withOUT police intervention (as far as I know there were 0 arrests in that particular incident) and everyone went away (hopefully) feeling not only that something positive was accomplished, but also that a sense of humanity and dignity was given a fare shake and was successful. Like real "let's talk like humans" diplomacy. Good job to all involved with that!
